General Class Terminology

  • When entering the dojang (Taekwondo School), bow and say "Kamsahamnida" (Thank You).
  • When entering and leaving the floor mat, bow to the flags.
  • Start of class greetings:
    - Hands up, face the flags, "Cha-Ryuht" (Attention), "Kyoung Yeh" (Bow).
    - Hands up, face Master Lee, "Cha-Ryuht" (Attention), "Kyoung Yeh" (Bow). Say "An Nyoung Ha Shim Ni Ka" (How are you Sir?). Same procedure for Instructors - Hands up, face Black Belts, "Cha-Ryuht" (Attention), "Kyoung Yeh" (Bow). Say "Kamsahamnida" (Thank You). Same procedure for Deputy Belts.
  • When kneeling down for mental training and meditation, say "Chung Jah".
  • When standing up after meditation, say "Tae Kwon" (To strike with feet or hands).
  • End of class greetings:
    - Hands up, face the flags, "Cha-Ryuht" (Attention), "Kyoung Yeh" (Bow).
    - Hands up, face Master Lee, "Cha-Ryuht" (Attention), "Kyoung Yeh" (Bow). Say "Kamsahamnida" (Thank You). Same procedure for Instructors, Black Belts, Deputy Belts, parents and each other.
  • Shake hands in order of rank starting with Master Lee. Look the person in the eyes, shake hands while bowing and say "Sugo Hasha Semnidah" (Polite Thank You).
  • Whole class forms a circle and gives 5 loud "Ki-Hap" (Yell with Force).
  • Stand in fighting stance, "Who's the best", say "I am Sir".
  • Jump and say "Ki-Hap" (Yell with force).
